Mapping & Statistical anALYSIS
We provide mapping services and statistical analyses. Our expertise range from descriptive demographic maps to creating new and relevant understanding through spatial science and techniques like geographically weighted regressions and spatial econometrics. We maintain statistical expertise that include everything from descriptive statistics to traditional regression techniques to Bayesian methods rooted in probability theories. These skills are integral to our business model. Our clients rely on our expertise to produce actionable assessments that can withstand public and court scrutiny.
Answer questions like: Where are the populations we serve located? What are the demographics and other characteristics of those populations? Is our programmatic outreach effective? Where should we focus our outreach? Are there pockets of need or abundance in our community? Who are voters voting for and why?
quantitative research
Our research is quantitative and spatially focused. We can help you and your organization answer critical questions around impact, program assessment, policy implications, demographics, and more. Critically, the spatial focus and mapping expertise help us visualize and answer where we see impact and where we need impact.
Answer questions like: Did the new justice reform policy impact increase or alleviate racial disparities in the system? Will the proposed policy create more fair housing or educational opportunities? Does the removal of polling places or consolidation of precincts hinder access to voting? How many people were purged from voter registration lists, who were the people scrubbed, where do they live, and how can we best support them?
Legal Disparate impact
Definitions for legal disparate impact depend on the issues being investigated. We specialize in disparate impact in voting rights, justice reform, education, fair housing, and civil rights public policy generally.
Answer questions like: Are the city policies providing equal opportunity to fair housing? Is the school district or university embracing policies that lead to disparate outcomes? Do changes to election administration rules create additional burden for specific groups of voters? Do new voting laws result in significant retrogression? Will our policy recommendations alleviate racial disparities in prisons or decriminalize poverty?
Data drive story telling
There are endless ways to visualize data. We create data driven story telling through static and interactive graphics and maps using tools like the R project for statistical computing, QGIS, ESRI storymaps, and Tableau dashboards. There are also fantastic low cost options like knightlab’s storymaps, storylines, and timelines.
Take action: You know your story is powerful. Let’s tell that story using all the tools and data available to us, and demonstrate what is thrilling or new about your work and impact.
Census data expertise
The U.S. Census Bureau provides amazing (and free!) data on our population including things like race, ethnicity, age, languages spoken, education, income, housing, voting and voter registration, citizenship, ability, and so much more. I have years of experience handling Census data and using it to help organizations understand the populations they serve. We bring this wealth of information to your organization.
Answer questions like: Who is impacted by the proposed policy? Where will the policy have the most impact? Where are populations my organization serves? Where, and with whom, can we expand our organizational impact? What are the demographics in my study area? Where are community services lacking for specific populations?
consultations
Incorporating data into your organizational workflow can be difficult, especially for cash-strapped non-profits. We will work with you and your organization on data acquisition, use, storage, and best practices.
Answer questions like: How can I harness data in my non-profit? Where are quality sources of low or no cost data? What kinds of software and visualization tools are available for non-profits? Is data collection actually important for my organization? What is the best practices for a team just getting started? How do I get a grip on the mountain of data already collected?
ESRI Mapping products
We have years of experience building ESRI storymaps, administering state and local election tools from ArcGIS Solutions, and providing overall guidance for how and when to invest in ESRI products.
Take action: Let’s build the resources that help get your work done and tell your story.
